A Little Dry for Swimming

WEDNESDAY 26 JUNE 2019

Nowhere near as cold in the van last night so that we had to kick off the rug sometime in the early morning.  A very relaxed start to the morning with the usual routine of coffee in bed and then, as per usual on a non pack up day, a cooked breakfast.

We headed off in the car about 9am for a tour of the various gorges/swimming holes/look outs offered at Charnley.  As with everywhere else, the poor wet season has meant that most of the swimming holes are not really for swimming in at the moment so we hiked and looked at Donkey pools, hiked and looked at the view from Mount Glemont, hiked and looked at Grevillea Gorge and then hiked and sat in a small (but clear) pool at Lily Pool.  We had the whole place to ourselves which was nice as we probably looked slightly ludicrous sitting waist deep in the middle of the pool eating crisps out of a lunch box.

Made our way back to camp and, as on the way out to the gorges this morning, had to slow down for various pregnant cows which insist on sitting in the middle of the road.  A few calves have already been born and are very cute with their big flappy ears.

Finally made it back to camp and sat and dried off for a while before heading over to the amenity block for hot showers and a hair wash (Jenny’s hair is not coping well with heat, dust and bore water hence is constantly tied up in a bun).  Back to the van for another sit down/nature watch as the small wallabies come out to eat the grass if you are very quiet and calm.  That is easier said than done as there are small mozzies constantly buzzing around your ears that you can only stand for so long before you have to swat them away (thankfully they don’t tend to land and bite but just make that ‘mehhhhhh’ noise in your ear which you are pre-programmed to swat at.  The swatting action inevitably frightens away the wallabies which are very timid considering they are hanging around a campground and would be reasonably familiar with humans.

Larry used his new Weber chip cooker to cook potato wedges to have with our garlicky chicken parcels for dinner and hence another yummy dinner.   Tidied up, partially packed up and blogged up before bed.
