What Goes Up Must Come Down

After a slow start to the day, we wandered out of the door at 10:30am and headed to Te Puia which is 5 mins from our hotel to see the geothermal activity Rotorua is famous for including steaming mud pools, bubbling water pools, the Pohutu Geyser and various traditional Maori cultural displays. Reminded me of working at Murrin, the molten sulphur and smell.
It was very interesting and twice we went to the Kiwi bird dark room and both times they were asleep, lazy little buggers.

Went into the main part of the city and found The Fat Dog Cafe and had a very large lunch, After the large lunch we had to work it off so we went to Skyline Rotorua for luge riding. Spectacular views of the lake and city from the gondola as we went up the hillside. We all went down the scenic beginners track the first time to get our licence and we then ventured onto the more difficult runs. We had a ball and Larry even got airborne going over a crest (only an inch or so) on the advanced run. Had our first taste of cold weather as the sun was behind the hill and the breeze was very cold. Larry tried out the Go Pro with it attached to his cap so he was very pleased with the day. We had enough by about 5pm and headed to our hotel for some home cooked dinner in the room.  Handy there was a Countdown (NZ's version of Woolies) just round the corner from our motel.

After dinner we went to the Polynesian Spa and we had a private pool room for the four of us for 30 minutes. What a way to finish the day, totally relaxing in the hot water.
